RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A 30-year-old Richmond man was taken into custody Tuesday night after being found with a small pocket knife in Monroe Park near Virginia Commonwealth University’s (VCU) campus. VCU Police received a report of a person armed with a knife in Monroe Park around 10:35 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13, prompting a VCU Alert text message at 10:38 p.m. and a large police presence. University officials sent an all-clear alert four minutes later, at 10:42 p.m. Officers responded and identified the individual as 30-year-old Michael Spencer of Richmond, who is not affiliated with the university. Police said they found a small pocket knife on Spencer and determined he did not brandish the knife.
