A beloved Philadelphia bakery is raising money to support the family of a police officer who was shot and killed in the line of duty on Saturday.
In a Facebook post, Termini Bros. Bakery announced it baked 1,000 special-edition cupcakes to honor the memory of Officer Shane Seiber, 40, who was sho
t and killed in the line of duty on Oct. 10.
The cupcakes were set to go on sale Wednesday at the bakery’s various locations, with all proceeds going to Seiber’s family to support them during this difficult time.
“We immediately knew that we had a responsibility as a part of the Philadelphia community to step forward and do our part to not only support Officer Seiber’s family but the entire Philadelphia Police Department,” the bakery wrote.
On Saturday, Oct. 10, around 12:50 a.m., Officer Seiber and his 33-year-old partner responded to a report of a man with a gun on a porch on the 100 block of North 52nd Street.
When they arrived, a gunman opened fire, shooting Officer Seiber three times and his partner 12 times.
Both officers were taken to the Penn Presbyterian Medical Center where Seiber died, while his partner was placed in stable condition.
Investigators identified the gunman as 35-year-old Eric Lewis. Police said he was in possession of a shotgun and two handguns, one of which belonged to either Officer Seiber or his partner.
Officer Seiber was a husband and father to a 7-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter.
Seiber was born in Trenton, New Jersey, and grew up in Levittown and Langhorne in Pennsylvania before moving to Northeast Philadelphia. In 2006, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served as an airman.
Officer Seiber was stationed at Dover Air Force Base where he served with the 436th Security Forces. He completed two tours of duty in Iraq from 2007 to 2008 and from 2008 to 2009.
He joined the Philadelphia Police Department in 2016 where he served in the 22nd and 19th police districts.
