(KRON) -- A mother and her two young children, a toddler and a 10-month-old, went through a traumatizing experience Monday morning when a stranger tried to steal the 10-month-old baby from their stroller. Just after 8 a.m., Santa Rosa police responded to reports of a "disturbance" on the 700 block of Seventh Street. Police said a mother was walking with her two children when an unknown woman aggressively approached them and "repeatedly demanded access to the 10-month-old infant." The woman allegedly kept saying she was going to take the child until she reached into the stroller, grabbed the baby and started pulling the stroller, saying she was going to take the baby. The mother said she called for help and someone driving a car nearby stopped to help. “This was a deeply troubling incident that understandably caused significant fear and emotional trauma for the victim and her family," said Police Chief John Cregan. "While no physical injuries were reported, the impact of an attempted abduction involving a young child can be profound and lasting." Police were able to get a photo of the suspect, Ana Taylor, from nearby security cameras. Police also learned that Taylor had approached a woman walking her dog on Slater Street, challenged the woman and followed her. Tuesday afternoon, they arrested Taylor for attempted kidnapping, child endangerment and pretrial release violation. She was booked into the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information related to this incident is encouraged to contact the SRPD DVSA Team at 707-543-3595. ...read more read less
