(KRON) -- Two people were taken into custody Saturday after attempting to flee authorities in the East Bay by driving the wrong way on Highway 4, according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office.
Just after 6 p.m., the sheriff’s office attempted to pull over a Honda Civic in Antioch after
a passenger with multiple felony warrants and a post-release community supervision violation was seen getting in the car, authorities said. Instead, the suspect driver fled at a high rate of speed, initiating a pursuit that led onto Highway 4 at Loveridge Road.
The Honda driver entered Highway 4 going eastbound in the westbound lanes, CCCSO said. The pursuit was temporarily halted before the suspect driver turned around and began driving westbound.
The suspect driver exited at Bailey Road in Bay Point, and the California Highway Patrol successfully deployed spike strips at Willow Pass and Alves roads.

“The Honda continued to Highway 4 at San Marco Boulevard where the Honda entered eastbound Highway 4 going westbound on the shoulder. The pursuit was once again terminated,” the sheriff’s office wrote. “The Honda continued westbound on the shoulder where it collided with a parked Sheriff’s Office vehicle.”
After the crash, the suspect passenger fled on foot while the driver continued to drive the Honda in the wrong direction, according to authorities. The passenger was apprehended by law enforcement.
The Honda driver then collided with a civilian vehicle, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
Both suspects were hospitalized, the sheriff’s office said, and will be booked into the Martinez Detention Facility.
The civilian driver was also hospitalized as a precaution, according to authorities.
