Nearrecord warmth starts the week before rain and a major cooldown | Oct. 12, 2026

TODAY
Columbus Day is going to feel a lot more like late summer than the middle of October. Some patchy fog may be around very early this morning, but it should disappear quickly after sunrise. From there, expect mostly sunny skies with highs surging into the middle 80s. South to southwes
t winds increase to around 5–10 mph. With the October sun still doing plenty of work and warmer air pouring in, temperatures will make a run at record territory this afternoon.
TONIGHT
Clear skies continue, but this will be an unusually mild October night. Temperatures only fall into the middle to upper 60s with south winds around 5–10 mph. There are no rain concerns, and the warm breeze keeps temperatures from dropping much overnight.
TOMORROW
Tuesday may actually be the warmest day of the week. Expect plenty of sunshine with highs climbing into the upper 80s to around 90 degrees. Southwest winds increase to around 10–15 mph with occasional gusts near 20–25 mph. That puts us near record territory again, and for mid-October, it is going to feel remarkably warm outside.
TOMORROW NIGHT
The first signs of the next weather system finally start showing up. Most of the evening stays dry under mostly clear skies, but scattered showers and thunderstorms become possible after midnight, especially toward daybreak Wednesday. Lows remain in the upper 60s with southwest winds around 5 mph.
WEDNESDAY
Wednesday is where our long stretch of warm, quiet weather finally breaks down. Showers and thunderstorms become increasingly widespread during the morning and continue at times through the afternoon. It probably will not rain every minute, but this looks like a genuinely wet day rather than just a stray-shower setup. Highs reach the lower 80s with southwest winds around 5–10 mph. Some thunderstorms could bring heavier downpours, although there is no clear signal for an organized severe-weather event at this time.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT
Periods of showers continue through the evening with a few thunderstorms still possible early. Rain gradually becomes more scattered overnight as cooler air starts working into central Indiana. Lows fall into the lower 60s with winds turning north around 5–10 mph.
7 DAY OUTLOOK
Monday and Tuesday bring near-record October warmth, with highs reaching the middle 80s Monday and upper 80s to around 90 Tuesday. Showers and thunderstorms return late Tuesday night, followed by a wet and increasingly cooler Wednesday and Thursday.
The bigger temperature drop arrives Friday into the weekend. Highs fall into the middle 60s Friday and only the middle to upper 50s Saturday, with gusty winds adding to the chill. Saturday night could bring widespread frost as temperatures drop into the middle to upper 30s before a sunny but cool Sunday with highs around the lower 60s.
