A young girl has died while another child and two adults are hospitalized Sunday, officials said, after a fire erupted in a rowhome in the Fairhill section of North Philadelphia. According to fire officials, the incident unfolded after crews were dispatched at about 3:30 a.m. to a report of a fir e at a rowhome along the 3300 block of D Street in Fairhill. Upon arrival, officials said, firefighters could see smoke coming from the second floor and they rushed to pull two people — an adult and a child — from the flames. However, the child that was pulled from the home perished from injuries they suffered in this fire. The adult, along with another child and another adult, were taken to a nearby hospital, officials said. According to members of the family who lived at the home — who spoke to NBC10’s Andrew Rowan — the child who died was a three-year-old girl just days away from her fourth birthday while a five-year-old boy has been hospitalized. One of the adults was listed in critical condition early Sunday and, officials said, the boy and the other adult were both listed in stable condition. Family members also told NBC10 their pets — a dog and a cat — were also killed in the fire. Officials said the flames were under control by about 4:15 a.m. and preliminary investigation into the incident suggests the fire was started by a lithium-ion e-bike battery located in an upstairs bedroom. At the scene, firefighters could be seen moving ladders against the two-story rowhome to access windows with visible fire damage, as crew members inside the home moved through the property pulling a hose into the home. But, an investigation into this deadly incident remains ongoing. NBC10 is working to learn more. ...read more read less
