Warriors Agree to Five Year, $110 Million Extension with Guard Brandin Podziemski
Oct 10, 2026
Continuing an offseason that's seen the team keep many familiar faces in the fold, the Golden State Warriors and starting guard Brandin Podziemski have agreed on a five-year extension worth $110 million. The deal follows a team-friendly extension inked with superstar guard Stephen Curry last month.A
s ESPN reports, the 23-year-old Podziemski will now enter his fourth season playing for the Golden State Warriors with a new extension in place. Beyond ensuring the 19th overall pick in the 2023 draft won't hit restricted free agency next summer, the deal retains a sizable amount of cap space for the Warriors to use in the possible pursuit of a marquee free agent next offseason. Details on the extension include a mutual team/player opt-in for the final year. As a result of the deal, Podziemski will see his base salary rise from $5.6 million this season to as much as $18.9 million per year once the extension kicks in.Per Anthony Slater of ESPN, the deal falls in line with general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr's plans to create flexibility for potential big moves in the future, either via free agency, trade, or both:"Dunleavy has been protective of the team's 2027-28 cap space," Slater writes," building a roster loaded with expiring contracts while convincing superstar guard Stephen Curry that the benefit of taking a $10 million pay cut for next season is in maintaining the ability to better transform the roster around him via free agency or trade in his final seasons. The Warriors have four tradable first-round picks."Adding to Podziemski's appeal for the Warriors' front office: his reliability. For a team that's endured a brutal onslaught of injuries in recent years, being able to count on Podziemski — who was one of only 18 NBA players to appear in all 82 games last season — clearly counts for a lot. The 2025-2026 season also saw the guard set personal career highs in points per game (13.8), made 3s, assists and steals. SFist previously reported on the team-friendly extension signed by Warriors franchise staple Stephen Curry late last month. That deal ensures Curry will remain in the Bay Area for at least the next two seasons.Meanwhile, before the Golden State Warriors season gets underway, their sibling team has business to finish as the Valkyries prepare to play in the franchise's first WNBA Finals, tipping off next week.Related: Warriors Ink Team-Friendly Extension With Superstar Point Guard Stephen Curry
