RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- One of the five suspects in a Shockoe Bottom mass shooting that left two people dead and several others hurt will be sentenced to 25 years or less as part of a plea deal reached in court on Friday.

in Richmond’s Shockoe Bottom. Two of those victims, 23-year-old Genesis Tamar Jones of Petersburg and 42-year-old Dominic Antoine Jackson of Henrico County, died at the scene.
Three Henrico County men were charged in connection with this shooting in early March. This includes Jackson’s brother, 26-year-old Drevon Jackson-Brown, as well as 28-year-old Carlos Johnson, Jr. and 23-year-old Sha’quan Morris.

Jackson-Brown appeared in Richmond City Circuit Court for a plea hearing on Friday, Oct. 9. He initially faced the charges of first-degree murder, malicious wounding and two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony.
In court, Jackson-Brown pleaded down from the charge of first-degree murder to felony murder. In addition, one of the two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony was dropped.
The charge of malicious wounding was also dropped, leaving him with two total charges -- felony murder and using a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Jackson-Brown's charges are in relation to the death of Genesis Jones, who died from a gunshot wound to the back.
What started as a physical altercation between two groups of women turned into a deadly shooting. According to evidence shared in court, once the fight broke out, Jackson-Brown grabbed a firearm from a friend and was the first to shoot into the crowd. His attorney, Benjamin Shute, said other people were also pointing firearms into the crowd and shouting threats.
While evidence shows it was not Jackson-Brown's shot that killed Genesis Jones, he is still charged with murder for firing those initial shots. According to the Commonwealth's Attorney, it was 28-year-old Carlos Johnson, Jr. who killed her. He's currently in custody awaiting trial in November for first-degree murder.
As part of a plea agreement, Jackson-Brown will be sentenced to 25 years or less, with his exact sentence to be set in court by Judge Jacqueline McClenney on Feb. 19, 2027.
Trial dates are upcoming in November, December and February 2027 for three of the four remaining suspects.
