Authorities are investigating an accident that left two pedestrians dead and multiple injuries in the Bronx on Friday afternoon. Reports of pedestrians struck near Holland and Allerton Avenues started coming in just after 2:30 p.m. According to a law enforcement source, a white Mercedes went spee ding through a red light and rammed into two cars stopped ahead of it. Those two cars were pushed into pedestrians standing between them, the source says. The FDNY says it was treating a total of nine patients at the scene; that count, according to a source, includes people who had been in the vehicle and people who had been on the street. Two people were said to be in critical condition, while four were considered in “moderate” condition, and the other three were stable. Police later confirmed the deaths of two pedestrians. Their identities were not made available. The pedestrian tally wasn’t clear. Graphic video posted to the Citizen app shows emergency personnel tending to a bleeding person on the ground. What appears to be another victim is also seen underneath a car. News 4 is not showing that part of the video. Also on the footage: Crowds gathering at the scene. It wasn’t clear how many vehicles were involved or what caused the incident. City officials urged the public to avoid the area. No other details were immediately available.
