RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A former University of Virginia (UVA) basketball player and WNBA star whose life inspired a Disney Channel Original Movie has died. On Thursday, Oct. 8, UVA Women's Basketball took to X to mourn the passing of 54-year-old Heidi Burge Horton. "We are deeply saddened by the p assing of Heidi Burge Horton," UVA Women's Basketball said. "Heidi was a cherished member of the Virginia Women’s Basketball family, her legacy will forever be a part of Virginia Athletics. Our sincere condolences to her family and loved ones." Horton, alongside her twin sister Heather, played for the Lady Cavaliers basketball team between 1989 and 1993. The Horton twins' lives inspired the 2002 Disney Channel Original Movie "Double Teamed," which primarily focused on their high school basketball careers.
