Parolee charged with multiple armed robberies of women in Lincoln Park, Little Italy

A man who police say robbed five women at gunpoint of their jewelry in Lincoln Park and Little Italy has been arrested. Devontay A. Murray, 29, on parole for aggravated battery to a peace officer and arson convictions, was charged with multiple counts of robbery and theft, according to police and p
ublic records. He was also wanted on two warrants.Murray is accused in four separate attacks, as recently as September 20:September 20 from 3:30 p.m. - 3:40 p.m. - 2200 block of North Halsted Street; armed robbery of a 26-year-old womanSeptember 20 at 3:45 p.m. - 1900 block of North Larrabee Street; armed robbery of a 40-year-old womanSeptember 2 at 11:26 p.m. - 1000 block of South Racine Avenue; armed robbery of a 31-year-old woman and aggravated battery of another woman July 30 at 6:30 a.m. - 1200 block of West Taylor Street; armed robbery of a 44-year-old woman. In a community alert issued by police last month, police said they were looking for at least two men, one of whom was carrying a gun, who confronted and demanded jewelry from women who are alone on the street during the middle of the afternoon.Murray, of the 1000 block of South Lytle Street in the Little Italy neighborhood, was released on parole on May 8, according to records. He is scheduled for a detention hearing Thursday at the Leighton Criminal Court building.
