A bomb threat forced the evacuation of the Cape May County Park Zoo in New Jersey. Officials said 911 received the bomb threat just after 4 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 5, prompting the zoo to go into lockdown. Animals were secured while visitors and staff were evacuated. The Cape May County Sheriff ’s Office and Middle Township Police investigated the threat. Four bomb-sniffing dogs searched and cleared the zoo and park, officials said. Teams were also expected to conduct another sweep Tuesday morning. “The safety of our visitors, our staff, and the animals in our care is always the first priority,” Commissioner Director Leonard C. Desiderio said. “Thanks to the Sheriff’s Office, Middle Township Police, and the K-9 teams, we can tell the public the grounds have been searched and deemed all clear.” County officials said false bomb threats have disrupted zoos nationwide this year and that every call is treated as real until it is cleared.
