Marcel’s entrance quietly announces itself. A small, cursive neon M reveals its tucked-away location on the second floor of the Westside Provisions District. But once inside, the 1920s-inspired steakhouse is anything but understated, with vest-and-tie service and opulent presentations of French c uisine. One of the most prominent restaurants in prolific restaurateur Ford Fry’s empire, Marcel opened in 2015 and has remained a Westside fixture. Marcel’s speakeasy ambience is right for sharing special occasions and also for dining solo at the bar. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable, willing to work with diners on how to best configure the meal. For dessert, a server recommended an off-menu item: a small scoop of ice cream topped with a tiny dollop of caviar, a combination both preposterous and impressive.
