Measles cases rise above 1,000 in Pennsylvania, officials say

The number of measles cases reported in Pennsylvania in 2026 has reached more than 1,000 people, health officials said Monday, Oct. 5.

The total number of cases in the Philadelphia region is 95, with the large majority being in Chester County:

Northampton: 0
Philadelphia: 0
Across the Commonwealth, there are 39 counties with confirmed measles cases. Lancaster County has the most with 391 confirmed cases, followed by Mifflin County with 118, according to publicly available health data. Chester County is third, with 84 cases.

Monday’s data release also reported that 27 new cases had been reported since Oct. 2.
In all, 198 of the cases resulted in hospitalization, and five have resulted in death, according to officials. Only four cases have been reported among people who are vaccinated.
State officials have said getting vaccinated is the best protection against the measles virus as the vaccine is proven 97% effective at preventing measles for life after two doses.
