A man was flown to a hospital Saturday after he was accidentally shot while hunting in Soapstone Basin. At about 12:51 p.m. on Oct. 3, first responders were notified of a 28-year-old man who was injured in an accidental shooting while hunting in the Soapstone Basin area of Wasatch County, accor ding to Wasatch County Search and Rescue. Several responding organizations from Wasatch and Summit counties mobilized to the remote location, along with several hunters who stopped to assist. Search and Rescue said the patient was alert and awake when first responders arrived. After being treated and stabilized, he was transported by medical helicopter to a hospital. The rescue took three hours. “A special thank-you to all the responders who worked together to reach a very remote location so quickly,” said Wasatch County Search and Rescue in a Facebook post about the incident. The responders were Summit County Utah Search and Rescue, South Summit Fire, Summit County Sheriff’s Office, University of Utah AirMed, Wasatch County Search and Rescue, Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Forest Service and area hunters who stopped to help. “Please be safe out there and remember to always practice firearm safety while hunting,” Search and Rescue said.
