MUNCIE, Ind. — A 17-year-old high school football star from Yorktown was found shot and killed early Monday morning, according to the Muncie Police Department.
According to a press release, county dispatchers received a 911 call reporting the shooting around 2:59 a.m. in the 1400 block of E
ast Cromer Avenue.
Officers arrived and found the teen, 17-year-old Christopher Wilson Jr., inside a vehicle. Police say he had been shot multiple times.
First responders pronounced Wilson dead at the scene.
Yorktown Community Schools also confirmed Wilson’s death to News 8, stating the community’s heart aches for the loss of Wilson.
Chris was a kind, respectful, and good young man.
At 6’7″, he was hard to miss, but he never wanted the spotlight. He had a bright future and big dreams, and he was working hard to reach them.
Chris will be deeply missed by our students, our staff, and our entire Yorktown community.
Yorktown High School Principal Stacey Brewer
Yorktown HS’s head football coach Mike Wilhelm remembered Wilson for the love and kindness he showed everyone.
Christopher was a great football player, but an even better friend and teammate. He was highly respected because he treated others with love and kindness.
Uncommonly, he never sought out the attention that came with being a high Division-1 football recruit. He showed up every day and worked hard to get better.
Our team has lost a brother, and we will carry him with us forever.
In June, Wilson had committed to play football at West Virginia next school year.
Police have not said what may have led up to the shooting or if there were any suspects.
Anyone with information was asked to contact the Muncie PD Detective Division at 765-747-4867.
