Oct 02, 2026
A man was shot and killed by police after they confronted him while he was trying to break into homes on Friday afternoon, according to the Philadelphia Police Department.
This all unfolded before 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 2, 2026, when police tried to stop the man along the 7000 block of Frankford Aven
ue, Philadelphia Police Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore.
Officers chased the man toward the front of a nearby store when a fight broke out between and police, Vanore explained.
Two officers fired their weapons at the man and he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Vanore.
The officers were wearing body cameras during the incident and Vanore said those videos will be a part of the investigation.
The family of the man who was shot by police spoke with NBC10’s Kelsey Kushner of Friday. They identified him as 26-year-old Jamir Cave and said that he suffered from mental health issues.
Family members explained they had reported Cave as missing moments before the shooting happened.
Even though police reported that they had found a knife near Cave, the family says he was not armed.
“He was missing all night, so his mother and grandmother was looking for him. Walking around, walking up and down Torresdale Avenue looking for him. The grandmother called the cops to make a police report, they never came. The neighbor on Tyson called the police because he was in her yard drinking water,” Cave’s aunt said. “He did not have a knife. He was not robbing houses.”
SkyForce10 was over the scene shortly before 3:30 p.m. where we saw officers blocking off the area with caution tape.
