A family of three and their dog were displaced after a fire heavily damaged two townhomes in San Jose early Friday morning. Calls reporting a structure fire at the townhome complex on Bellhurst Avenue came in around 4:30 a.m. The second floor of one townhome was destroyed, and the fire spread to an adjacent unit that was undergoing a remodel. Both units sustained heavy damage. The family of three and their dog were displaced from their home. The occupants of the neighboring unit had been preparing to move back in once the remodel was completed but will now be unable to do so. The other four townhomes in the six-unit complex were largely spared. More than 30 emergency responders were at the scene. The densely populated street created some access challenges, but officials said residents were cooperative and helpful, allowing crews to get the incident under control. According to the San Jose Fire Department, a dog was rescued during the fire. No injuries were reported, and the fire was under control by 5:23 a.m. The cause of the fire was not immediately known. ...read more read less
