With a new parking policy set to be in place for oversized vehicles at the South Philadelphia Sports Complex starting this Sunday, officials with the Philadelphia Eagles and Comcast Spectacor joined with die-hard Eagles fans talk about the new rules on Friday. Earlier this year, officials announ ced that, starting Oct. 4, 2026 — when the Philadelphia Eagles are set to take on the Los Angeles Rams — new parking policies would be put in place concerning how oversized vehicles can park at that sports complex. To open the event, Phil Laws, Comcast Spectacor’s chief operating officer, said they hope to preserve tailgating traditions, but also want to provide more room for people to park during games. “We met earlier this week with the tailgating community and we’ve answered hundreds of emails and inquiries about the process in an effort to both make it a smooth operation and remove any pain points that we can,” he said. Also, on Friday, Frank Gumienny, Philadelphia Eagles’ senior vice president, and chief operating officer, said the impetus for the changes was a “constant evolution” in making improvements to the South Philadelphia Sports Complex. “We are trying to take everything we can to make the environment better for Eagles tailgaters,” he said. He also said that there were “challenges” during the home opener that they hope to address with the new parking regulations. Through the new guidelines oversized vehicles will continue to get their traditional four parking spots — as they have in the past — and will have the option of buying an additional two spots for $100. The standard four spots go for $200 unless you have a prepaid pass. But now, new guidelines require employees to designate parking spaces instead of allowing people to select and save their spots. And, those who plan to tailgate will need to stay in their assigned spots. “All vehicles, equipment, and activities must remain within the assigned or purchased space,” reads a memo sent to season ticket holders about the new parking rules. Officials have said that the change is “designed to help ease traffic flow, keep lanes clear, and preserve parking availability for all guests.” Through the new plan, the designated oversized parking will be in lots D and N, but oversized vehicles pass holders in lots E and H will be assigned parking spots in that area. The guidelines will also make separate sections for oversized vehicles and regular-sized cars, with regular cars not allowed in the oversized area. Following discussions between the Eagles Tailgating Association and executives, a compromise was reached which will allow for drop-offs in the oversized vehicle area for the first hour of tailgates. In response to these changes, Dwayne Ross, a spokesperson for the newly-minted Eagles Tailgating Association said that the fan group was pleasantly surprised at how willing to work together the team’s officials have been on the new parking plan. “It was actually better than what we thought it was going to be going in,” Ross said of working with the team on the new parking plan. “We threw some ideas out there and, obviously, going forward we are going to be allowed to tweak what’s happening.” Officials said they were still open to further changes and will see how things go on Sunday. The Eagles Tailgating Association has a meeting scheduled with the Eagles next week to evaluate how the weekend went and discuss any potential changes to the parking lot plan.
