Fire District Open House Safety Fair Keizer Fire District is hosting its Community Op en House Safety Fair from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 5. It will take place at the fire hall, at 661 Chemawa Road NE.  The theme is “Charge Into Fire Safety. Safe Charging is a Superpower.” Attendees can meet firefighters, explore the fire station and gain safety tips on topics including child passenger and car seat safety, water safety, bike safety and fire safety.  Fall Book Sale The Keizer Community Library’s fall book sale will take place between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9 and between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct 10. It will be held at the Keizer Event Center at 930 Chemawa Road N.E.  The library hosts two book sales each year, which serve as fundraisers for the library. Hardcover books, puzzles and DVDs will sell for $1, and paperback books will sell for 50 cents. On Saturday from 2-4 p.m., attendees can fill a bag with books for $5.  Keizer Cultures Celebration The first annual cultures celebration will take place 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, in Chalmers Jones Park and the Keizer Event Center. The event center is at 930 Chemawa Road N.E. It is free to attend. The event, organized by members of the city’s Community Diversity Engagement Committee, is meant to help the community learn about the different cultures of Keizer residents. It will involve informational booths along with food trucks serving cultural cuisine.  Percey Auction The Keizer Network of Women will host its annual Percey Auction at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16. It will be held at the Keizer Event Center at 930 Chemawa Road NE. Proceeds from the annual women-only auction are used for the Keizer Chamber of Commerce’s Holiday Giving Baskets program, which provides food and gifts to children and families during the holidays. Attendees bid on baskets and handbags donated by local businesses in a live and silent auction. This year’s theme is “A Night in Paris,” and people can buy tickets or reserve a table for a group on the chamber’s website. Discounts are available to teachers.  Magic Show On the same day as its book sale, the Keizer Community Library is organizing a magic show at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 9. The event will take place at the Keizer Event Center at 930 Chemawa Road N.E.  Final Trashy Tuesday The final Trashy Tuesday litter cleanup of this year will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 20 in  Claggett Creek Park, at the Dearborn parking lot. It will take place from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The Trashy Tuesday program involves monthly litter clean-up events throughout Keizer with the goal of keeping rivers and streams clean. Cleanups take place during the warmer seasons, on the third Tuesday of each month.  Native Plant Celebration A Native Plant Celebration is scheduled between 9 a.m. and noon on Thursday, Oct. 24 in Keizer Rapids Park.  Attendees will help plant a rain garden, get tips for native plant gardening, take a guided habitat hike highlighting native plants, pollinators and birds, participate in a seed swap and do a soil activity teaching how to determine soil type and health.
