As the Midway City Council prepares to meet on Oct. 6 at 6 p.m., residents in our community face an important land-use question regarding three proposed conditional use permits for nightly/transient rentals along 100 South and 100 West. This is not an argument against transient rentals as a whol e. Rather, it is about whether these three specific locations meet Midway City’s own established requirements when current, real-world site conditions are evaluated. These properties sit directly along a primary residential corridor with a school sidewalk carrying children to and from school each day. Traffic along 100 South and its intersection with S.R. 113 (Center Street) already faces turning and circulation issues, with vehicles routinely using neighboring private driveways to turn around. Clustered together on the same block, three commercial-style nightly rentals present cumulative impacts on neighborhood safety, parking, and traffic flow that isolated properties do not. Furthermore, these CUPs were treated as grandfathered after the city contracted the Transient Rental Overlay District in 2026. Procedural fairness requires that official City records independently verify these CUP applications were received prior to the TROD contraction. We ask the City Council to thoroughly examine actual site conditions, verify application filing dates, and evaluate the combined neighborhood impact before deciding on these permits.
