It feels like a pivotal time in Utah, with a range of challenges and opportunities that will decide the livability of our beautiful state. The Great Salt Lake is shrinking, and toxic dust from the lakebed is ending up in the air we breathe. Wildfire season is getting longer, so are the smoky da ys, and many of us are facing insurance non-renewals or rising premiums due to this growing threat. Data centers are lining up for our water and power. And as the region grows, our open space and natural resources are under more pressure every year. We hear plenty about these issues through the lens of national politics, but we don’t often realize how much of the real work that will make or break them happens much closer to home in the Utah Legislature. That’s where decisions get made about water, energy, land use and growth, and those decisions will shape this state for decades. Hear from the candidates on Tuesday, Oct. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Jim Santy Auditorium for “A Livable Utah Is on the Ballot,” a free, nonpartisan forum hosted by the Wasatch Back Chapter of Citizens’ Climate Lobby.
