Surveillance video shows a stunning attack in East Harlem, where an unsuspecting man was attack with a steaming cup of liquid that left burns across his face. The random attack happed Monday night outside of a Cravin Crispy restaurant on 116th Street. That video shows the victim standing with hi s back turned to the suspect, who approaches with the unknown substance and hurls it onto the man’s face. He suffered burns to his face and neck. Investigators said the two men do not know each other and it’s not clear why the victim was targeted. They also don’t know what substance was poured on the 40-year-old victim. People who work at the fast food restaurant said a white residue was left behind on the sidewalk after the attack. Oscar Perez works at the restaurant and said police were back on the street Tuesday investigating the incident. “[It’s] pretty bizarre. Throwing it on a random person, too, even more crazier. This would ain’t safe no more,” Perez said. The apparent randomness of the attack has left many in the neighborhood troubled. “You can be walking and someone randomly approach you and do this to you, we just have to be vigilant and just be our brother’s keeper,” Tanya Leslie, an East Harlem resident, said. ​Police have not been able to identify the victim, who restaurant staff said was waiting on an order when the attacker came up from behind. ...read more read less
