At a season wrap-up press conference Tuesday, the Giants brass acknowledged that this wasn't their year, and that the team's bullpen needs help next season. But when it came to discussing some non-baseball-related controversies, Buster Posey once again went mush-mouthed.The San Francisco Giants had a fairly terrible season, finishing second to last in the NL West with 65 wins and 97 losses — only slightly better than the Colorado Rockies' 58 wins and 104 losses. Their rival LA Dodgers had almost the mirror-image record, with 100 wins and 62 losses, and they head to Game 1 of the Division Series on Saturday.Tuesday's presser with President of Baseball Operations Buster Posey, General Manager Zack Minasian, and Manager Tony Vitello was thus a somber affair, with the execs just trying to express a glimmer of hope for next season and a call to move on."As excited as we were about how well some of our young guys played, I just want to say it out loud: We don’t have blinders on the wins and losses," Posey said. "We’re still not there with that group." One upside of the low-stakes season, Posey said, following the relegation of outfielder Harrison Bader to the injured list early on, was being able to give some on-field experience to several young outfielders.Bader remains a part of the roster, Posey confirmed, despite that July incident where he was injured while on a scooter, at an hour when the bars let out in the Marina, in a collision with a fire truck, all while he was being treated for an existing foot injury.As the Chronicle notes, regarding Bader's contract, "There’s also the very real possibility the Giants just trade Bader and absorb some of the $13 million owed him or even designate him for assignment." And Posey said that things were still being discussed regarding Bader with the Players Association and the commissioner's office.Posey tried to defend Vitello against criticisms regarding his inexperience, and suggested he would stay on as manager next year. "I hate to say this without giving him the opportunity, he can add on to this, but I do think there’s an adjustment going from coaching to managing and I think as the season went on, he was starting to make that adjustment," Posey said.Vitello spoke in response to questions about the Pride Night fiasco, in which several players wrote Bible versus on their Pride Night caps to protest the event, seeming to accept some responsibility for poor "communication.""I think towards the end of the year, even though the outcomes weren’t what we wanted, whether it was veteran guys, younger guys, support staff, I think communication was at a much higher level and there was a much better understanding of what’s going on in different areas and how that needs to be tied together,” Vitello said. “Ultimately, I need to voice my opinion probably almost as loud as anybody, at least out of everybody that’s downstairs."Posey, once again, as he did after the controversy erupted, failed to meet the moment or offer a sincere apology to Giants fans who were offended.In his mush-mouthed, ultra-vague way, Posey responded today about the incident saying, "Well, I think any time you have a situation like that, it’s always an opportunity to learn. You reflect and think what could have been done differently, you try to learn from that and move on."Right.Overall, Posey didn't much impress anyone when it comes to having a plan for fixing the team's weaknesses. "Yes, there were plenty of words and very few answers Tuesday," writes Bay Area News Group's Dieter Kurtenbach, noting that Posey essentially told reporters that nothing was going to change next season. "What’s the colloquial definition of insanity, again?" Kurtenbach adds.
