Jack Clifton Crutchfield Jr., 58, died peacefully at home in Park City, Utah, on Friday, September 18, 2026. Jack was born March 21, 1968, to Jack and Channing Crutchfield. A Marine Corps family, the Crutchfields made homes in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; Marietta, Georgia; and Kailua, Hawai i, where Jack graduated from Kalaheo High School in 1986. He went on to the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, where he studied geography and by his own admission, majored in a good time as well. Jack served his country in the United States Navy for more than two decades. His service took him from Whidbey Island, Washington, to earning his wings as a Naval Flight Officer and on to Hawaii, where he flew on the P-3 Orion as a navigator with the VP-4 Skinny Dragons in Kaneohe Bay. His deployments carried him around the world, including Japan, Australia, and South America, as well as missions over Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He continued his career in the Navy Reserve at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, followed by a 2 year-long recall to duty in Norfolk in 2010. He retired as a Commander from the Navy in 2019. Jack and Christina Hultin were married in Hanalei Bay on March 11, 2006, while both were stationed in Hawaii. In 2007, when Christina was hired by Delta, they moved to New York and then to Virginia, where Jack joined the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency in 2009. Jack found his greatest joy in becoming a father to Ellie in 2009 and Abby in 2012. The family, along with Maggie and Cricket, settled in Park City in 2014 to raise their daughters. Jack cherished one thing above all else: he loved being a father. Anyone who knew Jack will tell you the same thing: he was the calmest person in any room. Easygoing, even-keeled, and quick to laugh, he carried the islands’ unhurried aloha spirit with him everywhere he went. Jack made friends for life. The ones from childhood, Greeley, the Navy, and Park City stayed close through the decades, and they showed up for him, again and again, when it mattered most. Jack loved riding his bikes on the Park City trails, camping and traveling with his family, watching Premier League soccer, listening to his vinyl collection, and wearing a wardrobe heavy in Iron Maiden T-shirts. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Christina; his daughters, Ellie (17) and Abby (14); his mother, Channing Huhn; his father, Jack Crutchfield; and his brother, Paul Crutchfield and his wife Celeste and their daughters Annabelle and Georgia; and by his constant companions, his dog Kai’a, and his cats Melvin and Moose. The lure of the islands never really let go of Jack. He went back with his family every chance he got, still dreaming of the next trip to the very end. He will get his wish. He will return to Hawaii for his final journey.
