The New Orleans-based health system announced the results Sept. 29 during a food distribution event at the Broadmoor Food Pantry. The campaign collected 623 pounds of food and 11,727 diapers, supporting a total of 475 families, according to LCMC Health. The effort was conducted through LCMC Health’s Together for Good campaign in partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank and the Junior League of New Orleans Diaper Bank. Food and diaper donation sites were set up at LCMC Health’s eight hospitals throughout September. “Health is shaped by more than what happens inside a hospital. Partnering with Second Harvest and Junior League of New Orleans to provide essentials like food and diapers helps us strengthen the health and well-being of families across our community,” LCMC Health CEO Greg Feirn said. The campaign coincided with Hunger Action Month and National Diaper Need Awareness Week, which ran Sept. 14-20. At the Broadmoor event, LCMC Health employees and leaders distributed prepacked bags of food to residents. The health system and its community partners also offered health and wellness services, including blood pressure screenings and flu vaccinations provided in partnership with Walgreens. LCMC Health said about one in five people in the community experiences food insecurity. The health system has an ongoing partnership with Second Harvest focused on addressing food access and its connection to community health. In 2025, LCMC Health contributed $75,000 to Second Harvest and collected more than 2,600 pounds of food through systemwide efforts. The health system also cited diaper affordability as a challenge for families, saying nearly half of families struggle to afford an adequate supply. LCMC Health said diaper shortages can also affect parents’ ability to attend work or school when child care providers require families to supply diapers.
