SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- San Francisco-based fashion brand Gap has announced a new initiative around live music, arts, and culture centered at its SF headquarters. On Tuesday, Gap unveiled plans for three new initiatives, including an artist residency and a live music series at its global HQ at 2 Fol som Street. The initiative also encompasses a partnership with the nonprofit Nest, "to help local makers grow their businesses," and a public art partnership with the Institute of Contemporary Art. Film crew spotted in Nob Hill Tuesday amid filming for Netflix hit ‘A Man on the Inside’ "Gap is expanding its investment in San Francisco's creative community," tweeted SF Mayor Daniel Lurie, "opening its headquarters to local artists and musicians, helping creatives grow their businesses, and investing in public art." As part of the initiative, Gap will launch "The House," an artist residency and live music series intended to create a platform for musicians, visual artists and "makers shaping the Bay Area's cultural landscape." Launching The House, according to a statement from Gap, will transform 2 Folsom into a "dynamic cultural venue for creative self-expression, bringing artists and the community together in the heart of San Francisco." “Creativity is what gives a city its energy. Artists, makers and cultural institutions are essential to its vitality,” said Zac Posen, Executive Vice President and Creative Director of Gap Inc, and Chief Creative Officer of Old Navy. “San Francisco is Gap Inc.’s hometown, and it’s a place that has always been defined by innovation, individuality and people with big ideas." The House will feature live music, including quarterly performances from Bay Area musicians, along with visual art, textiles and craft. There will also be rotating residencies and site-specific installations. The program will commission new work, foster collaborations, and host workshops with local textile artists and makers. "This is a San Francisco company leading by example," added Lurie. "Arts and culture are a defining part of our city's identity and an important part of our economic future. I hope other companies will follow Gap's lead and invest in our city's creative community." ...read more read less
