Braun says lawmakers should act on flock cameras INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana lawmakers should consider regulating license plate readers when they meet in January, Gov. Mike Braun said Monday at the Statehouse. The governor’s comments follow a series of incidents in which law enforcement officer s, including five Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers, were accused of improperly using readers such as Flock cameras. IMPD officer Michael Rogers pleaded not guilty Monday in court to charges that he used the cameras to track vehicles tied to his wife and her associates. Three other IMPD officers have hearings scheduled Tuesday. Braun, a Republican, said criticism of the technology is bipartisan, but he does not want to take a vital tool away from law enforcement. “Almost without exception, it’s been beneficial to them on actually doing their job,” the governor said. “But I think it’s an excellent discussion to have because it’s a civil liberties thing. I would share that, too. You don’t want it to be used to where it would infringe upon all our rights. And I think it’s a good discussion for the legislature to have.
