Dallas police, fire, and Atmos Energy responded to a reported gas leak at the Alexan Riveredge Apartments in the Design District neighborhood of the city this morning. Dallas police assisted with traffic control; Atmos shut off the gas and is fixing the affected line; and Dallas Fire-Rescue tran sported two Atmos contract workers to the hospital. The condition of the workers who were hospitalized is unclear at the time of this writing. Fire-Rescue said their injuries were “non-critical.” The fire department said no civilians or firefighters were hurt, “and there was no impact to the apartment or neighboring businesses.” The fire department said, “A contractor was pressure testing a gas line, which somehow exploded during the process.” The fire department could not say whether the incident that happened this morning is related to the initial gas leak that displaced hundreds more than a week ago. Many tenants could not return to their homes for nearly a week after. Atmos released a statement which reads in full: “Earlier this morning, Atmos Energy was performing routine maintenance on a pipeline near 1200 Turtle Creek Boulevard in Dallas. That process involved testing the line with air and did not involve natural gas. Our contractor experienced a worksite event, but natural gas service to area was not affected, and there was no damage to our pipeline.” Atmos said safety was their highest priority and thanked Dallas Fire-Rescue. It does not appear that residents are being evacuated, but traffic is blocked due construction in the area, affecting some businesses.
