Indiana Grown: Kelsay Farms celebrates 20 years WHITELAND, Ind. — Each and every Saturday, WISH-TV highlights a local company together with our partners at Indiana Grown. This week, Amy and Jenna Kelsay with Kelsay Farms, joined News 8 at “Daybreak” to talk about what’s in store for it s fall season, which started this weekend, and how it offers families a new combine simulator and interactive agricultural exhibits. “It’s been awesome,” Jenna said. “We’ve experienced the farm for 20 years now, so basically my whole life I’ve grown up with visitors at the farm and welcoming people and letting them experience what it’s like to grow up on a farm, play in the corn crib, run on a straw bow mountain, ride the cow train, things like that.” This year, the farm introduced a combine simulator to give guests a taste of daily farm operations. Jenna said the idea was inspired by her childhood. “One of my siblings and I’s favorite thing to do growing up on the farm was ride in the combine,” Jenna said. “So we thought that would be a cool opportunity to allow our visitors to sit in a real combine and figure out what it looks like and pretend like they’re driving it.” Another new addition, Maggie’s Market, offers an educational look at the food supply chain. Kelsay described it as a “farm-to-table type of display that kids can walk through and learn where their food comes from and how it gets to their play at home.” The farm will be open for five weekends. Regular hours are Friday from 6 to 9 p.m., Saturday from noon to 9 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. During fall break, the farm will open daily from noon to 6 p.m. the week of Oct. 5 and the week of Oct. 12. Tickets are available at the gate or online at KelseyFarms.com. “We know how it is with kiddos,” Amy said. “Plans change. So come anytime.” The farm is celebrating Grandparents Day today, an event that happens annually. “Today is grandparents day,” Jenna said. “We’re celebrating our grandparents. All grandparents are half off. We have a special milkshake for those and book readings and craft time.” Admission for grandparents is 50% off for the celebration. On Saturday, Oct. 24, the farm will host a “trick or treat through the corn maze” event. Families are encouraged to wear costumes to walk through the maze and collect candy and prizes.
