The family first raised concerns in a 2020 letter published by TMZ. In the letter, the family’s attorney asked Ledward Boseman’s legal team not to dispose of data from Chadwick’s phones and computers. He also sought the actor’s medical and financial records, as well as details about marital benefits, saying the goal was “to fulfill Chad’s actual intent.” In response, Ledward Boseman’s attorney described the letter as “sudden, misguided, and aggressive.” Her legal team said she had made efforts to include Chadwick’s brothers in projects honoring his legacy. Now, they said, she would handle the dispute “strictly by the book.” What began as a private family disagreement quickly became a war of words between lawyers. Then came a more troubling allegation. In an August 2021 letter, the family’s attorney said an autopsy found 0.12 milligrams per liter of hydromorphone, an opioid, in Chadwick’s system. The letter described the figure as “extremely troubling” and raised questions about the medical care and treatment he received before his death. Court papers show the family asked why he was found on his bedroom floor. Still, the toxicology figure alone does not prove the drug caused his death. The same letter claimed that Chadwick had recorded instructions leaving 90% of his film residuals to his parents and brothers. Ledward Boseman’s attorney fired back, saying the family had waited nine months before sending another hostile letter, timing it near the anniversary of Chadwick’s death. He accused them of being insensitive to a grieving widow. By July 2026, the dispute had landed in court. Derrick and Kevin alleged that Ledward Boseman had failed to complete distributions required under a 2022 order. They also questioned the handling of a $40,000 insurance policy, bank accounts, royalties, residuals, and rights tied to Chadwick’s image. The brothers sought a full accounting of the estate, and attorney Jason Rubin was appointed to oversee its administration. Ledward Boseman disputes their account. She claims she distributed every asset except for a roughly $300,000 IRA. She says she held it back because of the brothers’ earlier legal action, Page Six reported. She also claims she gave more than $300,000 of her own money to Derrick’s four children, believing Chadwick wanted them cared for. Her attorney says she has “gone well beyond what was required of her.” Reported assets total roughly $3.8 million, including shares in Chadwick Boseman, Inc. Ledward Boseman says the estate later received about $300,000 in SAG-AFTRA residuals. She says $75,000 went to each brother at their parents’ request for the 2020–2024 period. The brothers maintain their parents have sought clarity “for years.” Chadwick died without a will in August 2020. He had married Ledward Boseman just six days earlier. Under California law, when someone dies without a will, a surviving spouse is generally entitled to half of the decedent’s separate property. In this case, the court’s division awarded Ledward Boseman 50% and each of Chadwick’s parents 25%, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The brothers say they are fighting for their parents’ shares — not for shares of the estate themselves. Meanwhile, Ledward Boseman has built her own career since Boseman’s passing. Performing under the name sahn, she released the album “The Mornings” and has performed spoken word and soft RB music at New York’s Apollo Music Café. She has also discussed plans for a wine bar, although her earnings remain undisclosed. Beyond her music career, Ledward Boseman has worked on projects connected to Chadwick’s legacy, including a foundation and a London production of his play “Deep Azure.” The fight has split fans online. “This is so very wrong,” one person wrote under a Jasmine Brand Instagram post. Another insisted, “Well she was his wife and what she says goes.” A third wrote, “He married her before he passed for a reason.” One sided with the family, “I read some of the legal documents between lawyers, that TMZ posted earlier. She’s not being honest about the funds. She’s refusing to release information on one of the bank accounts. She needs to talk about the levels of medication found in his system. It also left questions that have followed his widow for six years. Ledward Boseman says Derrick officiated her wedding to Chadwick. The actor’s brothers first raised concerns months after his death.
