Families staying at Ronald McDonald House at Lurie Children’s Hospital have a new game room thanks to Chicago Bulls guard Josh Giddey.The Josh Giddey Family Foundation and the Chicago Bulls unveiled the transformed community space on Friday.“It's a colorful game room with a lot of Chicago Bulls and Australia-themed activities,” said Giddey, who is from Australia, as he looked at families through the window enjoying the space. “It means the world to me.” Benny the Bull plays videos games during the unveiling of a new community space led by the Josh Giddey Family Foundation at the Ronald McDonald House: Lurie Children’s at 211 E. Grand Ave. in Streeterville, Friday, Sept. 25, 2026.Anthony Vazquez/Sun-Times The Ronald McDonald House is a non-profit organization that services families with seriously ill or injured children, and while Giddey has given back to the healthcare community in other ways — giving game tickets healthcare workers, visiting patients at children’s hospitals, and delivering toys and serving meals during the holiday season — the Bulls say this game room marks Giddey’s first major community project in Chicago.“The reasons that [families] came here were not so fun,” said Lisa Mitchell, chief program officer at the Ronald McDonald House Chicagoland Northwest Indiana. “If we can bring a little fun and joy to their lives while they're navigating such a difficulty, then we're doing a good job. Grand Ave. in Streeterville, Friday, Sept. 25, 2026.Anthony Vazquez/Sun-Times The room was stocked with board games, an arcade basketball game, and two-flat screen TVs with PlayStation consoles.It also includes little personal touches from the guard — artwork of Australian animals like a platypus and an emu, a pair of Giddey’s signature shoe, and his Chicago No. 3 Bull’s jersey.“The idea was to make it a colorful, bright space, really inclusive for everybody, and that's kind of how it turned out and it was exactly how we had envisioned it,” Giddey said.Before cutting the red ribbon officially opening the game room to families, Calvin Parson, Chicago Bulls executive director of community engagement, called out Giddey’s consistent passion for the healthcare community.“It's really just amazing to sort of see the impact that he has had during his time here,” Parson said. Proctor says her daughter Georgia is currently admitted at Lurie’s recovering from a brain infection.“To be able to come here and sleep and shower and be able to run over back to the hospital really quickly,” Proctor said. “It takes so much thought out of an already very stressful situation.”Proctor said she feels “extremely lucky” to be a part of the Ronald McDonald family.“[The game room is] everything that a Chicago sports fan would want and dream of,” Proctor said.Proctor’s daughter Addie, Georgia’s sister, told her that she plans on coming 20 times a month.“We're gonna be here all the time, huh?” Proctor said.
