The 49ers again will be without star edge rusher Nick Bosa for an extended period. Bosa pulled his calf during practice this week and will miss “a few weeks,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport reported Friday, citing sources. Bosa played on 63 percent of the 49ers’ defensive sn aps during the first two games of the season, but he popped up on the injury report Thursday. NBC Sports Bay Area’s Jennifer Lee Chan hinted at a potentially serious Bosa injury late Thursday. “Nick Bosa was supposed to talk to us on Wednesday,” Chan said during a YouTube live stream. “That was his media day. He did not talk to us on Wednesday and then he did not talk to us today, Thursday. We waited around for him. And … knee and calf. It’s not good. I just don’t think … It doesn’t feel good. Like, my spidey senses are saying that this is a serious injury for Nick Bosa, and if he’s not out for the season, he’s out for multiple weeks.” At least for the moment, it appears Bosa and the 49ers dodged the “out for the season” bullet. Bosa missed most of the 2025 NFL season after tearing his ACL early in the year. Bosa’s injury is the latest blow to the 49ers’ defensive line, with Alfred Collins already out for the season, and Sam Okuayinonu and CJ West on injured reserve. James Thompson Jr. is expected to miss time with an ankle injury and rookie Romello Height underwent surgery for a fractured hand, putting his status for Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals in doubt. The 49ers had big expectations for Bosa this season and now he will be sidelined for several weeks.
