FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) — A woman has died after a crash shut down part of northbound I-69 in Fort Wayne Thursday night. The Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) says the crash happened around 10:21 p.m. near mile marker 311.8, between the Coldwater Avenue and Lima Road exits. Police say a dark-col ored Chevrolet Malibu was stopped in the northbound lanes with no lights activated when it was struck from behind by a gray Chrysler Pacifica. The Malibu driver was trapped inside the vehicle and was taken to a local hospital in life-threatening condition. Our partners in news, 21Alive, reports the woman later died. A man, another woman and a child were also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, according to FWPD. Police believe alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash. No arrests had been made as of Friday morning. The Fort Wayne Police Department’s Fatal Accident Crash Team is investigating. Its Air Support Unit also assisted with aerial documentation of the scene. Northbound I-69 was rerouted at the Lima Road South exit for several hours while investigators worked at the scene.
