Have you ever wondered if a gas pump is actually delivering what you’re paying for? It’s a question many people across the country are asking as high prices persist. In the South Bay, the task of checking fuel pump accuracy falls on Santa Clara County’s Weights and Measures Division. “ We’re out there every day making sure the customers can feel confident in the gas that they’re buying,” said Ryan Atwood with the Weights and Measures Division. When filling up, consumers should keep an eye out for a seal on the pump that indicates it passed inspection. A pump that pumps too much gas favors customers, but still gets a blue tag, meaning repairs should be made within 30 days. A red tag means the pump is not pouring enough gas and is immediately shut down. What the county doesn’t want to see is people testing the accuracy of a gas pump themselves.
