GREENFIELD, Ind. — A Hancock County Sheriff’s deputy was arrested Thursday morning after a monthslong investigation into allegations of misconduct and intimidation. Indiana State Police arrested James Heneghan, 33, on charges of intimidation, official misconduct and fraud. The investigati on began in April 2026 after the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office received a report of intimidation. The sheriff referred the case to the McCordsville Police Department, and the case was then forwarded to state police. Heneghan was placed on leave from the sheriff’s office when the allegations first surfaced. Indiana State Police detectives found that the allegations began with threatening text messages Heneghan sent to another person. Eventually, investigators found evidence that Heneghan improperly used automatic license plate reading cameras. An audit revealed Heneghan performed unauthorized searches in the camera database for people he knew. Working with the Hancock County Prosecutor’s Office, investigators submitted probable cause for the charges. Indiana State Police detectives served the arrest warrant Thursday morning in Greenfield.
