UniverSoul Circus INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The purple-and-yellow big top is back in the Circle City. UniverSoul Circus returns to Indianapolis this weekend with its new “We All Belong” production, bringing more than three decades of high-energy, multicultural entertainment to audiences at L afayette Square Mall. Guest ringmaster Patrick Bouquett known as Fabolous Mr. Patrick joins ringmaster Donald “N.O.” Long, whose nickname pays tribute to his New Orleans roots, to lead the celebration of Black culture through music, dance and world-class circus arts. UniverSoul Circus describes its show as an interactive experience that combines circus artistry, music, dance and cultures from around the world. Founded in 1994 in Atlanta by Cedric Walker, UniverSoul Circus has spent more than 30 years creating a different kind of circus experience. Walker, a former production manager for The Commodores who later became a rap music entrepreneur, developed a show influenced by the Harlem Renaissance, Motown, “Soul Train” and hip-hop culture. Unlike a traditional circus where audiences simply watch from their seats, UniverSoul encourages guests to participate throughout the performance. Organizers say audiences can expect dancing, karaoke, cheering and even opportunities for children to join a dance contest. The production features performers from Europe, Asia, Africa, North America and the Caribbean. This year’s “We All Belong” theme focuses on bringing people together through a shared experience under the big top. “We All Belong is about bringing people together and the feeling we want people to experience under the big top,” Donald said. “Our performers come from different countries, cultures and traditions, but they share one ring and create something extraordinary together.” The show features fire-breathing stilt dancers during a Caribbean Street Carnival, along with music, dancing and larger-than-life characters. Audiences will also see Soul Skaters from Cuba and the United States perform routines on wheels, along with aerialists and acrobats representing cultures from around the world. Motorcycle stunt riders will launch, flip and dive as high as 60 feet above the circus floor. Interactive moments are also part of the experience, with organizers teasing plenty of surprises and opportunities for audience members to become part of the show. UniverSoul Circus is offering a “317 Final Weekend Special” ticket promotion through Sunday. The promotion is available for select showtimes and seats.
