State Str eet in Boise.If that spot sounds familiar, it's currently a Papa Murphys pizza shop.Planning documents filed with the City of Boise show a proposal to convert the Papa Murphys location in the Northgate Shopping Center on State Street into a Dunkin restaurant with a drive-thru. The project would renovate the existing space and expand into a neighboring vacant retail suite, according to city documents. "It'll be nice to have that convenience, go right across the street and get myself a good coffee."The proposed Dunkin would be located in the Northgate Shopping Center, near the corner of State Street and Glenwood Street. Nearby business owners say they view the potential addition as another sign of investment and revitalization in the shopping center."Everybody that walks in the salon, they always have a cup of coffee in their hands," Cordell said.While some coffee drinkers told Idaho News 6 they would continue supporting locally owned coffee shops even if Dunkin opens nearby, neighboring business owners said the national chain could help draw more customers to the area."It's good that the city's expanding State Street," said Jayon Leonard, a barber at Ambitions Nail and Hair Studio. "So hopefully it'll be easy access and the business will thrive and so will the [shopping] plaza."One of the biggest questions surrounding the proposal is the drive-thru.According to city planning documents, new drive-thrus are generally prohibited within the property's MX-4 zoning district. However, city staff say the existing drive-thru on the site was approved decades ago and may continue operating under its existing entitlement.Even so, planners say the applicant must still address concerns related to vehicle circulation, traffic impacts and potential effects on neighboring properties before approvals could be granted."I think this parking lot is pretty set up for something like that," she said. "The only thing I would say is maybe people getting out of their parking spots if there is a line for this new Dunkin'."For now, the proposal remains under review by the City of Boise.
