Miami-Dade County Commissioner Natalie Milian Orbis secured unanimous support for a motion laying out a clear path forward if Florida voters approve Amendment 3 on November 3: deliver real property tax relief for families, without sacrificing the core services and public safety residents depend on. The motion directs the County administration to present a financial plan within 60 days of the election showing how Miami-Dade will do more with less. It requires a jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction breakdown of the impact, a clear look at commitments currently funded with one-time money, a plan to protect essential services and public safety, and a full accounting of County reserves. “Families across District 6 are asking for real relief on their property tax bills, and I believe we can deliver it without cutting the services people count on most,” said Commissioner Milian Orbis. “That means a County government that runs leaner, protects our Sheriff’s Office and fire rescue teams, and still puts money back in the pockets of working families and seniors. If voters approve Amendment 3, Miami-Dade needs to be ready on day one with a plan to make that happen.” The motion passed as commissioners adopted the County’s $14.26 billion budget for fiscal year 2026-27. The countywide operating property tax rate remained at 4.57 mills. Commissioner Milian Orbis did not support the final budget. Throughout the hearing, Commissioner Milian Orbis pressed the Administration on several priorities for District 6. She called for full funding of the Sheriff’s Office and fire rescue, so our first responders have what they need to keep families safe. She pushed to restore bus routes that families and workers rely on to get to school and to work. She raised concerns about long-term funding for Environmentally Endangered Lands, which protect the wetlands that recharge our drinking water and reduce flooding. And she continued advocating for investment in District 6 parks and infrastructure, from neighborhood playgrounds to the roads our families drive every day. “Budgets reflect our values. I will keep fighting to fund our Sheriff’s Office and fire rescue teams, invest in our parks and roads, and lower the cost of living for families in District 6,” said Commissioner Milian Orbis.
