SEYMOUR, Ind.— The Indiana State Board of Accounts says a Seymour City Councilman must repay $3,371 in compensation he received after moving districts. The audit, released this week by the Indiana State Board of Accounts, said council member Jerry Hackney moved out of his elected district, Dist rict 2, in October 2025. Hackney continued to collect a salary from October 27, 2025 to May 1, 2026  while living in District 3, according to the audit. The SBOA requested Hackney reimburse the city $3,371 for the pay he received during that time. Indiana Code states: “A member forfeits office if the member ceases to be a resident of the district or city.” Indiana’s I-Team reached Hackney via phone and he said he’s contacted Indiana State Police this morning to find out where to send the check for $3,371. “I just want this over with,” said Hackney. Hackney said the clerk-treasurer was aware that he moved districts. “They continued to pay me after that,” said Hackney. He said due to health issues, the last council meeting he attended was in April 2026. Hackney said he does not consider himself a member of the Seymour City Council. City Attorney Christina Engleking provided the following statement. “To date, Mr. Hackney has not submitted notice of resignation to the City.  There is an ongoing investigation into this matter being handled by outside agencies. To maintain the integrity of the investigation, Council cannot comment further.” The audit was forwarded to the local prosecutor who has not yet responded to requests for comment. ...read more read less
