Bay Area tech CEOs and politicians spoke out about their concerns and hopes for AI on Wednesday as President Donald Trump prepares to host Chinese President Xi Jinping. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman spoke in front of the United Nations Security Council, asking for companies, and countries, to work togeth er when it comes to determining AI’s future. “If AI is to be democratic, the most important decisions cannot be made by labs in San Francisco alone, they must be shaped by democratic processes and by governments accountable to the people that they serve,” he said. As the U.S. and China get together to talk about, among other things, artificial intelligence, Silicon Valley Representative Ro Khanna also spoke out, asking other AI CEOs what they think needs to happen to keep people safe. “The stakes are too high for America. If humans lose control over AI, it’s game over,” he said. “Organizations need visibility as to where AI is being used, what it can access, who owns it, what decisions it can make, and what happens when it fails,” EqualAI CEO Miriam Vogel said.
