Theatre Week is back with discount tickets to a spectacular list of local plays and musicals. To help you find a great show, we’ve compiled a preview of some of the top productions you can see around town during the multi-week commemoration and through the rest of fall. PLAYS 1. August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom Round House Theatre | through October 18 Celebrated playwright August Wilson’s Jazz Renaissance–era tale of vocalist Ma Rainey gets a revival at Round House Theatre. The finger-snapping blues production is co-produced with Maryland’s Olney Theatre Center ($25+). 2. The Score  Harman Hall | through October 25 Actor Brian Cox—best known for his role in HBO’s Succession—is the lead star in Shakespeare Theatre Company’s The Score. The production narrates German composer Johann Sebastian Bach’s 18th-century visit to Frederick II ($43+). 3.  Measure for Measure Folger Theatre | through November 1 Photograph by Scott Suchman. Helen Hayes winner Psalmayene 24 directs Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure at Folger Theatre. The modern take on the Bard’s dark comedy is set in the American South during the ’50s, where morals, justice, and societal rules are up for debate ( $20+). 4. Are You Now or Have You Even Been Arena Stage | October 17-December 6 The words of 20th-century artists such as Arthur Miller, Jerome Robbins, Paul Robeson, and many others are woven into the script of this electrifying docudrama that recounts hearings from the House Committee on Un-American Activities ($77+). 5. My English Persian Kitchen Mosaic Theater | November 12-December 6 Get tickets to this one-woman show at Mosaic Theater. Audiences listen to the story of a woman resettling in England and later Belfast after fleeing her home in Iran, all while she cooks traditional Persian noodle soup live on stage ($62+). 6. Hanukkah Spectacular Woolly Mammoth Theatre | November 14-December 13 Get into the holiday spirit at this comedy about a group of Jewish artists working to create a profitable hit play about Hanukkah ($20+). 7.Wilderness Generation Studio Theatre | November 18-January 3, 2027  The Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright behind Fat Ham returns to Studio Theatre with a new comedy on family and legacy set in Tidewater, Virginia ($86+). MUSICALS 8. Come From Away Ford’s Theatre | through October 25 Photograph by Carol Rosegg. The heartwarming true story Come From Away returns to Ford’s Theatre after its debut on the historic stage ten years ago. The Tony Award–winning folk and rock music production goes behind-the-scenes of a small Canadian town that housed and cared for 6,579 airline passengers stranded there on 9/11. The show has been extended for another week due to popular demand ($20+). 9. Merrily We Roll Along Image courtesy of Signature Theatre. Signature Theatre | through November 1 This 1930s musical by Stephen Sondheim is seeing a revival on stage and on the big screen. Theater-goers can get tickets to Signature Theatre’s rendition of the classic tale of friendship, ambition, and show business ($47+). 10. Maybe Happy Ending National Theatre | October 6-11 This futuristic new musical is a six-time Tony Award winner. The production is a robot love story sparked by a road trip across South Korea ($87+). 11. Hundred Days Keegan Theatre | October 10-November 15 If you only had 100 days to live, how would you spend them? Keegan Theatre’s concert-musical answers this question with a true story about romance and love set to the tune of folk-punk melodies ($65).
