(KRON) -- The Central Marin Police Authority is asking the public for more information after a resident alerted police after spotting a man carrying what appeared to be a rifle in Larkspur Monday. Officers were dispatched at 4:24 a.m. to the incident at the walkway connecting South Eliseo Drive and Ladderman Lane. “Officers arrived on scene within three minutes of dispatch and established a perimeter at both entrances to the walkway,” police said. “Officers located the subject, who was carrying a confirmed shotgun, and issued multiple commands for the subject to drop the weapon. The subject ultimately complied and was taken into custody without further incident.” The suspect was identified as 30-year-old Juan Lopez Lopez, an unhoused man from San Rafael, California. Police said they later learned the shotgun was “loaded with incorrect ammunition” and safely rendered the firearm inoperable. Officers also located documents and other property belonging to multiple individuals in Lopez Lopez’s possession. Lopez Lopez is currently on probation in Marin County with an outstanding arrest warrant, according to police. He was subsequently booked into the Marin County Jail on the warrant on suspicion of the following charges, including felon in possession of a firearm, prohibited person in possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm in public, misappropriation of lost property and a probation violation.
