Although roughstock events keep viewers on the edge of their seats, the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo is going for a different sort of thrill this Halloween. A new Haunted Hayrides attraction is taking over the 723 Frost Bank Center Dr. fairgrounds between October 22 and 24.The weekend event prom ises “eerie scenes, unexpected scares, and thrilling encounters.” But the grounds won’t be transformed into a set piece from Billy the Kid vs. Dracula. Instead, a social media teaser shows chainsaw-wielding baddies, diabolical twins, ambling zombies, and three meanies with Purge-like masks. The harrowing hayrides depart every 30 minutes from 7:30 pm to 11:30 pm each night. Doors open at 6 pm, so guests have time to shop for Rodeo merch, listen to a DJ, grab a bite, or gulp a little liquid courage. Or a soda. The ticket page says the experience is recommended for guests 12 or older, so don’t expect more extreme scares.Tickets are $28 on October 22 and $38 from October 23-24. Presumably, some of the proceeds will go toward the Rodeo’s mission of supporting Texas youth through scholarships, grants, endowments, and junior livestock auctions.On September 16, the organization also debuted its new East Arena. The new facility extends the Rodeo’s long-term commitment to serving the East Side.
