Cutler Bay has a very important election coming up, and I believe the choice for mayor is clear: Suzy Lord has earned the opportunity to lead this town. Suzy has done a great job for Cutler Bay. She is not a candidate who suddenly appeared because there is an election. She has been part of this comm unity for more than 40 years. She has raised her family here, been involved in the community and served on the Town Council since 2020. She knows Cutler Bay because she has lived it. That matters. Local government is about people. It is about knowing your neighbors, understanding the problems in your community and being willing to put in the time to get things done. Suzy Lord has done that. She has sat through the meetings. She has listened to residents. She has dealt with the tough issues facing Cutler Bay. She understands that growth can be good for a community, but growth has to be managed. Traffic, development, infrastructure, the environment and protecting the quality of life in Cutler Bay are not campaign slogans. They are real issues that residents deal with every day. And Suzy has been involved in those issues. She has been particularly focused on protecting the character of Cutler Bay while making sure the town is prepared for the future. She has talked about the need for better traffic information and greater town involvement in traffic studies. I like that approach. Before government makes a major decision, it should have the best information possible. But what really stands out to me about Suzy is her commitment to Cutler Bay. She has lived here for more than four decades. She went to school here. She raised her two sons here. She served on the Parks and Recreation Committee before being elected to the Town Council. This is not just where Suzy Lord lives. This is her community. And that is exactly the kind of experience I believe a mayor should bring to the job. Cutler Bay does not need someone who is going to spend four years learning the community. The next mayor needs to understand the town from day one. Suzy already does. She also understands that being mayor is not about one person making every decision. It is about working with the Town Council, the town manager, residents and businesses to move Cutler Bay forward. That takes experience, patience and a willingness to listen. Suzy Lord has demonstrated those qualities. Every election gives voters a choice, and this one will be no different. But when I look at Suzy’s years of service, her connection to the community and her understanding of the challenges facing Cutler Bay, I believe she has earned the opportunity to take the next step.
