The Eagles are going to be without one of their best offensive players for at least the next few games. Tight end Dallas Goedert sprained his MCL in the Eagles’ 24-20 win over the Titans on Sunday and is expected to miss a few weeks, a league source confirmed to NBC Sports Philadelphia. ESPN fi rst reported the news on Monday afternoon. Goedert, 31, suffered the knee injury early in the second quarter after playing just 19 snaps. He was initially listed as questionable to return but never did. He needed additional testing on Monday, which revealed the MCL sprain. Head coach Nick Sirianni earlier on Monday afternoon said the team was still awaiting those results. This is an injury the Eagles really can’t afford because their depth at tight end is — at best — pretty suspect. Update: The Eagles are signing Zach Ertz to their practice squad. Without Goedert for the last three quarters in Tennessee, the Eagles two tight ends were Johnny Mundt and E.J. Jenkins. As a reminder, rookie Eli Stowers and veteran Grant Calcaterra are both on IR and are not yet eligible to return. And the only other TE in the building is Josiah Deguara, who was added to the practice squad less than a week ago. As the Eagles waited to hear word on Goedert, Sirianni on Monday afternoon was asked about the team’s depth at the position. “I love where we are in that room,” Sirianni said. “Obviously, we had an injury yesterday with Dallas. Eli is out right now. We’re a little banged up there, as you guys know, but I like the pieces that we have there, and we’ll see where we are with Dallas. I don’t want to go anywhere yet until we figure out some things there. “I know this: Howie (Roseman) will do everything he can possibly do to help this roster in every situation. I’m so appreciative to have a partner (in) Howie … and I know he’ll do everything he can do if we are without Dallas, but we’ll see where we are. Sometimes it feels like when a position gets banged up a little bit, you see it in waves in certain groups. We’ll see where we are a little later today.” The Eagles have previously been linked to a possible reunion with veteran Zach Ertz, which made sense before the Goedert injury and makes even more sense now that Goedert is out. Ertz is 35 now and is coming back from a season-ending injury, but was productive with Washington in 2025. Last year, Ertz had 50 catches for 504 yards and 4 touchdowns just 13 games for the Commanders. The Eagles have one spot open on their 53-man roster. The Eagles drafted Ertz in the second round in 2013 and he played 8 1/2 seasons in Philly, making three Pro Bowls and catching the game-winning touchdown in Super Bowl LII. He is just 10 catches behind Harold Carmichael on the Eagles’ all-time receptions list; a return would give Ertz a chance to break that record. As for Goedert, the good news is that the Eagles expect to get him back this season. After a career-high 11 touchdown catches in 2025, Goedert got off to a great start in 2026. In the opener, he caught 4 passes for 77 yards and 2 touchdowns. But the Eagles were playing with fire going into this season with this type of depth. While Mundt is an ideal fit as a TE2 in their 12 personnel package because of his blocking ability, he has never caught 20 passes in a single year and he’s in his 10th NFL season.
