The Oakland Roots Soccer Club, Port of Oakland and a Southern California realty group have come to an exploratory negotiating agreement to develop the Howard Terminal site. On Sept. 10, the Port of Oakland Commissioners voted to authorize an exploratory exclusive negotiating agreement with the te am, the port and Industrial Realty Group for one year at Howard Terminal, according to an agenda report. “You are probably aware that we have been playing at four different venues through our seven years existence, very nomadic,” Chief Real Estate Officer of the Oakland Roots and Soul Lydia Tan said. “I think it’s important for me personally as a commissioner to think about the opportunities at Howard as something that will provide strength and health to the entire port and all of our operations, and I think this is really good step in that direction.” A description of the respective projects, site plans, proposed acreage parking plans, potential uses, workforce and maritime integration are part of the expected timeline. in a statement, the Oakland 68s, an organization dedicated to the community and its sports culture said in part the agreement “represents an opportunity to build a new chapter for Oakland sports and the city’s waterfront.” NBC Bay Area reached out to Industrial Realty Group for comment, but hasn’t heard back yet. ...read more read less
