(KRON) -- The Fremont Police Department said it is investigating the city’s ninth fatal traffic collision of the year after an 88-year-old man crashed his vehicle into a building Saturday. No bystanders were injured, according to police. FPD said officers responded at approximately 12:12 p.m. to a report of a single-vehicle traffic collision involving a vehicle that crashed into a building at Niles Boulevard and Cinematic Common. The unresponsive driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was located at the scene by officers and first responders. He was taken to a nearby trauma center, where he later died from his injuries. “The Fremont Police Traffic Unit has taken over the investigation into the collision. The exact cause of the collision is still under investigation, but speed has not been ruled out. It is unclear whether the driver’s health or any pre-existing medical conditions may have contributed to the collision. However, alcohol impairment does not appear to be a factor at this time,” police said in a news release.
