A teen boy was left badly hurt after a shooting on Friday evening, according to the Philadelphia Police Department. The shooting happened along the 1900 block of West Godfrey Avenue in North Philadelphia on Sept. 18 around 7:46 p.m., police said. When officers got to the scene, they found a 16-year-old boy who had gunshot wounds to his legs, police reported. The boy was taken to a nearby hospital where he is in critical condition. Investigators say that they believe the teen victim and the shooter knew each other and that incident stemmed from an ongoing dispute between them that started on social media. That dispute started days ago and escalated to a physical fight, police said. After the fight, the two returned with guns drawn and then one or more people opened fire which is when the 16-year-old was hit, according to police. “This is the dark side of social media when individuals use it for purposes that include insults back and forth that leads to physical violence and then gun violence. Totally unacceptable,” Philadelphia police inspector D.F. Pace said. No arrests have been made and no weapon has been recovered but police are still investigating. Police have not released what sparked the original dispute on social media.
