Tampa Fire Rescue is responding to a hazmat incident involving a sulfur tank fire on Harbor Island Friday evening.Capt. Henry Williams with Tampa Fire Rescue said crews were called to the area of McCloskey Boulevard at approxima
tely 7:20 p.m. after a sulfur tank caught fire.The fire was quickly extinguished, but gas continues to escape from the tank, Williams said.Crews have tested the air quality several times and have not detected dangerous chemicals. Williams said people in the area may notice a sulfur smell similar to rotten eggs.As a precaution, a shelter-in-place notification remains in effect for Harbor Island residents while fire and hazmat crews work to mitigate the incident.Tampa Fire Rescue crews are on Davis Islands and Harbor Island as the response continues.
